More about our unique textiles...

In the antique section of our site is a selection of authentic antique rugs and textiles from different world regions, widely produced by women for their households and their daughters'dowries. Troughout their lives, their weavings and embroideries were a principal means of expression and each one of them in keeping with tradition created each piece guided by her own artistic sensibility. Unknown artists, their beutiful and one-off traditional rugs, textiles and clothes are considered know as a traditionnal art form called ethnic textile art.

Ethnic textiles and other weavings describe the story of the people who made them, links to their own identity. However, textile arts and clothes of various ethnic groups all over the world have their traditionnal creativity and technical skill been largely influenced by the history of their country. Through the centre of Central Asia, from China to the Mediterranean, ran the Silk Road.Via this network of trade routes took place a continual interaction between travellers, traders, nomads and dwellers resulting in a wide transfer and blend of ideas, technology and motifs among oriental ethnic textile art. This is one of the reasons why the ethnic textiles in Central Asia and in neighbouring countries are so rich in technique, pattern, motif and colour. An other reason is the influence of different cultures in the same country. The weddings between tribes, the interdependence between nomads and villagers contributed to enlarge ethnic textile art's variety. The best known embroidered ethnic textiles produced were the suzanis, the woven ikat textiles and ceremonial clothes. Among ethnic art items are not only textiles, but also rugs, flatweaves, felts and assortment of other embroidered, brocaded and woven items all over the world, wonderfull unique ethnic pieces searched by collectors now.
